Privacy Policy

At Cairns GP Medical Centre, all of your medical records are treated as confidential. It is in accord with the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000, that all information collected at our practice is to be treated with confidentiality.

Our practice acknowledge patients may request access to their medical records.  We require you to put this request in writing whether that be in person at the Practice’s front counter, directly to their GP, by email (must be signed), or in the regular mail.  Our practice will respond within a reasonable time. Please note, there may be fee/s associated with providing this information.  In saying this, patients are not charged for making the request – only for the costs of complying with the request.

Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised members of staff.

All of our patients information will not be released to any persons or company without your written consent.

 

Email Policy

Cairns GP Medical Centre do not send any confidential information via email unless written and verbal consent is gained from the patient. We do not recommend sending an e-mail to communicate with your Doctor as your privacy and confidentiality may be compromised.  E-mails are not locked or encrypted and may be accessed by unknown persons.

Recall Policy

Please be aware that as per our Practice Policy, test results cannot be discussed over the phone. Reception and Nursing staff do not have authority to discuss your medical records or clinical results.

If your results require further discussion, we will contact you directly. Results are usually returned to us 48-72 hours after the sample has been taken.

If you would still like to speak to your GP and you have not received a call within a week of your test, you are welcome to book an appointment.

Telephone Policy

Cairns GP Medical Centre currently do not offer telehealth consultations. Please call the practice to book in for a consult with your GP in person.

Complaints

At Cairns GP Medical Centre we constantly strive to give you the best possible care and attention. We appreciate and welcome your feed. If you have any complaints please contact the Practice Manager. These concerns will be fully investigated and the appropriate action taken. We thank you for your support and loyalty.
